Messabout
I painted this piece from several of my photographs of sailboats in the waters off Dana Point, California. I titled it "Messabout." A messabout is a gathering where people come together to "mess about" in a friendly competition, and that perfectly describes what was happening here. It was a gorgeous late afternoon with a pleasant breeze and a light haze along the shore. I captured the sailboats gliding across the water from a jetty near the marina.

My watercolor depicts a "marine layer" or cloudy day for non-Californians enveloping the beach and the surrounding hills just south of the Ritz Carlton, Laguna Niguel, California. Even with the marine layer, it's still a great day for swimming or an epic wave!

Nishikigoi (錦鯉)
A beautiful watercolor print of koi fish in a pond at the Byodo-in Buddhist Temple in Oahu, Hawaii. It’s a very peaceful setting that encourages you to sit and absorb the beautiful surroundings. I titled the piece "Nishikigoi 錦鯉," which translates to "swimming jewel" in Japanese.

Byodo-in (平等院, Byōdōin) Temple, Kaneohe, O-ahu, HI. This temple is in the beautiful Valley of the Temples Memorial Park. It is a peaceful spot to meditate and enjoy the spectacular scenery.
I painted this watercolor of a sprint sled dog race I watched in Fairbanks, Alaska, on a cold and snowy day. I remember the dogs' energy, the musher's guidance, and the determination of the fans who endured subzero temperatures.
